Chassis identification

Sprinter chassis codes, explained.

Three generations of Mercedes Sprinter have been sold in the U.S. The chassis code tells you which parts fit — and which ones absolutely do not. Match your van below. Working from a part number instead? Use the OEM part number reference.

How to find your VIN

Where it is

The VIN plate is on the driver's side door jamb — the body pillar you see when you open the driver's door. It's also stamped at the base of the windshield on some vans and printed on your registration and insurance card.

What the 10th digit means

The 10th character of the VIN is the model year. For example, a VIN with "7" in position 10 is a 2007, "F" is 2015, "K" is 2019, "N" is 2022, "P" is 2023, and "R" is 2024. This is the fastest way to confirm which chassis generation you have when the badge is missing or the van was rebadged.

Decode it for me

Paste your 17-character VIN (or just the 10th character) and we'll pick the most likely chassis.

Still not sure which generation you're looking at? Use the quiz and we'll narrow it down from your year and symptoms.
