What This Part Does

The intercooler sits between the turbocharger outlet and the engine's intake manifold, cooling the compressed charge air before it enters the combustion chambers. Cooler air is denser — which means more oxygen per cubic centimeter, better combustion, more power, and lower exhaust temperatures. An intercooler that's damaged, internally corroded, or leaking at the end tanks can't cool the charge air effectively, robbing the engine of the density gain the turbo is working to provide.

When to Replace It
