Replacing only the serpentine belt on an OM642 Sprinter while leaving the original tensioner and worn idler pulleys in place is one of the most reliable ways to destroy a new belt within the next service interval — the worn bearings that produced the squealing, chirping, or belt wear don't disappear with a new belt. This is the complete belt tensioner and pulley service kit for NCV3 Sprinters equipped with the 3.0L OM642 V6 diesel engine, covering both serpentine belts, the tensioner assembly, and both idler pulleys for a complete accessory drive restoration.
What's Included
The 7PK2035 serpentine belt drives the alternator, power steering pump, and A/C compressor from the main crankshaft pulley. The 6PK691 secondary belt serves the additional accessory drive circuit on the OM642's split belt system. The belt tensioner assembly (6422001370) maintains correct tension on the main serpentine belt throughout its service life using an internal spring-loaded arm — when the tensioner's internal spring weakens or its pivot bearing wears, it can no longer maintain consistent belt tension, causing belt slip and noise. The two idler pulleys (6422001070 x2) guide the belt around the accessory drive layout and must spin freely and quietly — worn pulley bearings produce the chirping and squealing that is often mistakenly attributed to the belt itself.
Why Kit Versus Individual Parts
Every component in this kit wears on the same mileage clock as the serpentine belt. Replacing the belt alone on worn pulleys and a tired tensioner transfers the load immediately to the new belt, causing premature wear and a repeat service interval far sooner than necessary. NCV3 OM642 2007–2018 Specific
This kit is for NCV3 Sprinters with the 3.0L OM642 diesel engine. The VS30 OM642 (2019–2022) uses a different kit with an additional idler pulley — see the VS30 kit for those model years.
