A failing brake booster on a VS30 Sprinter means every stop takes significantly more pedal effort — in a loaded commercial van that may already require firm braking, a degraded or failed booster creates a genuine safety hazard that gets worse progressively until the unit is replaced. This is the Sachs brake booster for VS30 Sprinters, a direct replacement that restores full vacuum-assisted braking effort and proper pedal feel across all loading conditions.

What This Part Does

The brake booster is a vacuum-assisted servo unit mounted between the brake pedal and the master cylinder on the firewall. When the driver presses the brake pedal, the booster uses engine vacuum to amplify the input force before transmitting it to the master cylinder — multiplying the driver's pedal effort by a factor of two to four times. This amplification is what makes it possible to stop a loaded Sprinter van with a normal level of pedal effort. On diesel Sprinters, vacuum is supplied by an engine-driven vacuum pump mounted to the camshaft. When the booster's internal diaphragm develops a crack or tear, its check valve fails, or its vacuum supply connection leaks, the servo loses the vacuum it needs to amplify pedal force — and the driver must press significantly harder to achieve the same stopping performance.

Common Symptoms of a Failing Brake Booster

  • Brake pedal that feels abnormally hard or requires excessive force to achieve normal stopping
  • Hissing sound from behind the dashboard when the brake pedal is pressed — a sign of vacuum leakage
  • Brake pedal that sinks slowly under steady pressure (booster check valve failure)
  • Longer stopping distances under normal pedal effort
  • Engine RPM fluctuating or dropping when the brake pedal is pressed — vacuum being drawn from the intake

When to Replace

Replace when the booster is confirmed failing through a vacuum hold test or when hard pedal effort and abnormal braking behavior are traced to the booster after ruling out the master cylinder, brake fluid level, and pads/rotors. Also inspect and replace the vacuum supply hose and check valve at the same time — a failed hose will starve a new booster of vacuum and cause immediate repeat symptoms.

VS30 Specific — VIN Verification Required

This brake booster fits VS30 Sprinters (W907/W910) across all engine configurations. It does not fit NCV3 Sprinters (2007–2018). Always verify by VIN before ordering. Contact us and we'll confirm fitment before you buy.
