Cracked or missing brake caliper guide pin boots on a VS30 Sprinter allow moisture and road debris to reach the caliper slider pins — leading to pin corrosion, caliper sticking, and the uneven pad wear, brake pull, and dragging brakes that follow. This is the Genuine Mercedes-Benz OEM brake caliper guide pin boot kit for VS30 Sprinters, a direct replacement that restores proper sealing and smooth caliper operation across the front or rear axle.

What This Part Does

The brake caliper guide pin boot kit includes the rubber boots that seal the caliper slider pins — also called guide pins — where they enter the caliper bracket. The slider pins allow the caliper body to float laterally on the bracket as the brake pads wear and as the caliper clamping action shifts load. This floating movement is essential for even pad-to-rotor contact on both the inboard and outboard pad faces. The rubber boots keep the slider pins lubricated and protected from water, road salt, and brake dust. When the boots crack or tear, contamination enters the pin bores, the grease is washed away, and the pins begin to corrode and seize in their bores — fixing the caliper in place, dragging the outboard pad, and causing the uneven wear pattern that progressively worsens until the caliper is replaced. Replacing boots at the first sign of damage — or proactively at every brake service — is the most cost-effective way to extend caliper life.

Common Symptoms of Failed Caliper Guide Pin Boots

  • Uneven brake pad wear — outboard pad worn significantly more than inboard, or one side wearing faster than the other
  • Vehicle pulling to one side under braking from a caliper that cannot float freely
  • Dragging brakes, heat, or burning smell from one wheel after driving
  • Grinding or squealing from a stuck caliper that is not releasing properly
  • Visible cracking, tearing, or missing boots on the caliper slider pins during inspection

When to Replace

Replace any time the boots are found cracked, torn, or missing during brake service. Also replace proactively at every brake pad change as a preventive measure — the cost of a boot kit is a fraction of the cost of a new caliper. Always clean and re-grease the slider pins with the correct high-temperature brake caliper grease when installing new boots.
