The DEF tank heating unit is one of the most common failure points in the NCV3 Sprinter's BlueTec emissions system — and when it goes, it takes the level sensor and temperature sensor with it. A failed heater means DEF can freeze in cold weather, the ECU loses fluid level data, and fault codes pile up fast. This OEM replacement heating unit with integrated level and temperature sensor restores full DEF system function and clears the fault pathway before derate conditions develop.

What's Included

This is a complete DEF tank heating assembly — heating element, fluid level sensor, and integrated temperature sensor. All three components fail together and are replaced together as a single unit.

What This Part Does

The DEF tank heater keeps diesel exhaust fluid above its freezing point (−11°C / 12°F) so the SCR system can operate in cold weather. The integrated level sensor monitors fluid quantity and sends tank level data to the instrument cluster and ECU. The temperature sensor ensures the heater activates at the correct threshold. When any of these components fail, the ECU detects the fault and triggers warning lights — and if left unaddressed, activates engine derate.

Important: Not Compatible with KP2 Option

This heating unit fits standard NCV3 Sprinters with the DEF tank mounted on the frame under the cargo area. It is not compatible with Sprinters equipped with option code KP2, where the DEF tank is mounted in the engine compartment. Always verify your DEF tank location and option codes before ordering.
