The EGR recirculation tube is the connecting pipe between the EGR cooler and the EGR valve — and on the OM642, it's a known failure point that develops cracks, warps at the flanges, or leaks at the gasket surfaces over time. A leaking EGR tube allows unmetered exhaust gases to escape into the engine bay, triggering fault codes, rough running, and in some cases exhaust odor in the cabin. This Genuine Mercedes-Benz OEM replacement tube restores a sealed EGR circuit and eliminates the leak at its source.

What This Part Does

The EGR recirculation tube routes cooled exhaust gases from the EGR cooler outlet to the EGR valve inlet, completing the gas circuit before it re-enters the intake manifold. It's a rigid pipe that endures constant heat cycling and exhaust pressure — the flange connections are particularly susceptible to warping and gasket failure on high-mileage OM642 engines. This is the longer of the two EGR pipe variants on the late-model NCV3.

Required Hardware

Two gaskets (part #6421421880) are required when replacing this tube — one at each flange connection. These gaskets are not included and must be ordered separately. Always replace both gaskets any time this tube is removed.
