Mercedes Sprinter EGR Valve with Gasket – OEM | OM642 3.0L | Early NCV3 | #6421401760 (2007–2009)
DESCRIPTION:
A failing EGR valve on the OM642 Sprinter is one of the most common causes of rough idle, reduced power, increased smoke, and emissions-related fault codes. Carbon buildup causes the valve to stick open or closed — and on the early NCV3, this is a well-documented high-mileage failure. This is the OEM EGR valve with gasket for 2007–2009 Sprinters with the 3.0L OM642 V6. Includes the replacement gasket — no need to source it separately.
What This Part Does
The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve recirculates a controlled portion of exhaust gases back into the intake manifold, lowering combustion temperatures and reducing harmful NOx emissions. The OM642 uses an electronically controlled EGR valve that modulates flow based on engine load, temperature, and operating conditions. When the valve sticks from carbon deposits or the actuator fails, exhaust gas flow becomes unregulated — leading to rough idle, increased emissions, fault codes, and reduced engine efficiency.
Common Symptoms of a Failing EGR Valve
- Rough or unstable idle
- Reduced power or poor throttle response
- Increased black or blue smoke
- Check engine light with EGR-related fault codes (P0400–P0408)
- Failed emissions test
Early NCV3 vs. 2010+ — Critical Distinction
This valve (6421401760) is for 2007–2009 early NCV3 Sprinters only. The 2010+ NCV3 Sprinter uses a completely different EGR valve — part number 6421401460. These parts are not interchangeable. Always confirm your model year before ordering.
