The intake manifold on the early NCV3 OM642 Sprinter is one of the most notorious failure points on the entire platform. The swirl flap system built into this manifold is known to fail — and when it does, flap debris can be ingested directly into the engine. Even without catastrophic flap failure, a cracked or warped manifold causes air leaks that trigger fault codes and degrade performance. This is the OEM left (driver) side intake manifold for early NCV3 Sprinters with the OM642 3.0L V6.

What This Part Does

The left intake manifold distributes charge air to the three cylinders on the driver's side bank of the OM642 V6. It houses the swirl flap system, which adjusts air turbulence in the intake ports to optimize combustion at different RPM ranges. When the swirl flap actuator fails or the plastic flap components break, the manifold must be replaced to restore proper intake function and eliminate the risk of debris entering the engine.
