DESCRIPTION:

The OM642 Sprinter uses multiple exhaust gas temperature sensors at different points in the exhaust system — and ordering the wrong one for the wrong position is one of the most common mistakes in BlueTec emissions repairs. This is the EGT sensor located at the exhaust manifold, positioned before the turbocharger. It's the upstream-most temperature monitoring point in the exhaust circuit, and a failed sensor at this location affects turbocharger protection, EGR management, and DPF regeneration logic.

What This Part Does

This exhaust gas temperature sensor monitors exhaust temperature at the manifold before the turbocharger inlet. The ECU uses this data to protect the turbocharger from over-temperature conditions, manage EGR valve operation, and determine when DPF regeneration cycles should begin. A failed or out-of-range sensor at this position causes the ECU to lose critical high-temperature monitoring data — triggering fault codes and potentially disrupting multiple emissions and engine management functions simultaneously.
