The brake master cylinder is the hydraulic heart of your Sprinter's entire braking system — and when it fails, brake pedal feel is the first casualty. A sinking pedal, soft or spongy response, or a pedal that slowly drops under steady pressure are all signs the internal seals are worn and hydraulic pressure is being lost internally. This is the TRW OEM brake master cylinder for the late-model NCV3 Sprinter 2500 and 3500 — aluminum construction, direct bolt-on replacement, built to the same specifications as the original unit.

What This Part Does

The brake master cylinder converts mechanical pedal force into hydraulic pressure that is distributed to each brake caliper via the brake lines and ABS module. When the internal seals wear out, brake fluid bypasses the piston rather than building pressure — resulting in a soft or sinking pedal despite no visible external leak. A failing master cylinder can also cause brake fluid contamination if seals deteriorate and allow moisture ingestion into the circuit.

When to Replace

Replace when the pedal sinks under steady pressure, when brake fluid is being consumed without visible leaks, or after any contamination event involving the brake fluid. Always bleed the complete brake system after master cylinder replacement to purge all air from the hydraulic circuit. Do not reuse the old reservoir seal — replace it at the same time.
