What This Part Does

The upper radiator hose carries hot coolant from the engine to the top of the radiator, where it's cooled before cycling back through the engine. It's one of the highest-pressure points in the cooling system and is exposed to constant heat cycling — which over time causes rubber to harden, crack, or collapse internally. A restricted or leaking upper hose compromises the entire cooling system.

When to Replace It

Inspect this hose if your Sprinter is running warmer than normal, if you notice coolant puddles under the van, or if you detect the sweet smell of coolant near the engine.
