What This Part Does

The in-tank fuel delivery unit draws fuel from the tank and delivers it under pressure to the low-pressure side of the fuel system, feeding the high-pressure injection pump. It also houses the fuel level sensor that sends tank level data to the instrument cluster. A weakening pump causes fuel starvation under high demand — particularly noticeable during hard acceleration, hill climbing, or when running near empty. A failed sending unit causes an inaccurate or non-functional fuel gauge.
