A cracked or collapsed clean air line on a VS30 Sprinter lets unfiltered air bypass the air filter and enter the turbocharger and intake system — allowing abrasive particles to reach the turbo wheel bearings, MAF sensor element, and eventually the combustion chamber itself. This is the Genuine Mercedes-Benz OEM clean air line for VS30 Sprinters equipped with the 2.0L OM654 diesel engine, a direct replacement that restores a sealed, unobstructed airflow path between the air filter housing and the turbocharger inlet.

What This Part Does

The clean air line — also called an intake air duct or air intake pipe — is the sealed duct that routes filtered air from the air cleaner housing to the turbocharger compressor inlet. On the OM654, this duct carries the full volume of intake air the engine consumes under all operating conditions, including boost demand under load. It must maintain an airtight connection at both ends to ensure that only filtered air reaches the turbocharger and that the MAF sensor, which is mounted in this section of the intake tract, receives accurate airflow data. When the duct cracks, splits at a joint, or collapses from age and heat cycling, unfiltered air bypasses the filter, MAF sensor readings become inaccurate, and the engine loses the sealed intake system its emission and combustion management depends on.

Common Symptoms of a Failing Clean Air Line

  • Hissing or whooshing intake noise under acceleration from an air leak in the duct
  • MAF sensor fault codes or air mass plausibility codes from unmetered air entering the system
  • Reduced power or sluggish throttle response from an air leak between the filter and turbo
  • Visible cracking, splitting, or deformation of the duct body or connection points
  • Increased black smoke under load from inaccurate air mass data affecting fueling

When to Replace

Replace when the duct shows any cracking, splitting, or loss of sealing at either connection. Also inspect the duct any time intake system components are disturbed for MAF sensor service, turbocharger replacement, or air filter housing work — reseating a damaged duct after service creates an ongoing air leak that can be difficult to diagnose later.

VS30 OM654 Specific — VIN Verification Required

This clean air line is for VS30 Sprinters equipped with the 2.0L OM654 diesel engine. It is not compatible with VS30 models equipped with the 3.0L OM642 or NCV3 Sprinters equipped with the 2.1L OM651. Always verify your engine code and VIN before ordering.
