Mercedes Sprinter Thermostat Assembly (Heated) – OEM | Early NCV3 OM642 | #6422002915
DESCRIPTION:
If your early NCV3 Sprinter is overheating, running too cold, or showing erratic temperature readings, the thermostat is one of the first things to check. This is the heated thermostat assembly for 2007–2009 Dodge and Freightliner Sprinters with the 3.0L OM642 V6 — and it is not interchangeable with the 2010+ unheated version. Getting the right variant matters.
What This Part Does
The thermostat regulates coolant flow between the engine and radiator to maintain a stable operating temperature. On early NCV3 models, the heated thermostat includes an electrical plug for the coolant temperature sensor — this connector is absent on the unheated version used in 2010+ models. The thermostat opens at 87°C to allow coolant to flow through the radiator once the engine reaches operating temperature.
Heated vs. Unheated — Why It Matters
Early NCV3 Sprinters (2007–2009) use this heated thermostat with an integrated temperature sensor port. The 2010+ models use the unheated variant (part #6422002015) without this port. Installing the wrong version will result in either a missing sensor connection or improper fitment. Always confirm which version your engine requires before ordering.
When to Replace It
Replace the thermostat if your Sprinter is overheating, running consistently below normal operating temperature, showing erratic temperature gauge behavior, or as part of any major cooling system service on these early OM642 engines.
