DESCRIPTION:

The intake manifold on the OM642 Sprinter is one of the most well-known failure points on the entire platform — specifically because of the swirl flap system built into it. When the swirl flap actuator motor fails, flaps break off and get ingested into the engine. Even when the flaps haven't failed yet, a cracked or warped manifold causes air leaks that throw off the fuel trim and trigger fault codes. This is the OEM left (driver) side intake manifold — without the swirl flap motor — for NCV3 Sprinters with the 3.0L OM642 V6.

What This Part Does

The intake manifold distributes charge air evenly to the cylinders on the left bank of the OM642 V6. It routes pressurized, cooled air from the charge air circuit into the combustion chambers in the correct volume and with the correct timing. A cracked, warped, or contaminated manifold disrupts this distribution — leading to rough idle, power loss, elevated emissions, and fault codes related to intake air or fuel trim.

Swirl Flap Motor — Important Note

This manifold does not include the swirl flap actuator motor. The swirl flap motor is a known failure item on the OM642 and is frequently replaced at the same time as the manifold. If you're doing a full intake manifold service, consider replacing the swirl flap motor (part #6421500594) alongside this unit to avoid having to revisit the job.

When to Replace It

Replace this manifold if you're experiencing rough idle, misfires on the left bank, persistent intake air fault codes, visible cracks or warping, or as part of a swirl flap failure repair where debris may have contaminated the manifold bore. This is also a required replacement any time broken swirl flap material has entered the intake.
