This LUK hydraulic valve lifter restores correct valve actuation and eliminates the ticking at the source. Sold individually — 20 lifters required per engine.
What This Part Does
The hydraulic valve lifter (also called a cam follower or tappet) sits between the camshaft lobe and the valve stem, transferring camshaft rotation into precise valve opening and closing motion. The hydraulic design uses engine oil pressure to automatically maintain zero valve clearance — eliminating the need for periodic valve adjustment. When the lifter's internal check valve wears or the oil passages clog from sludge, it loses hydraulic pressure, collapses, and the affected valve no longer opens to full lift — causing ticking, rough running, and reduced cylinder efficiency.
Common Symptoms of a Failing Lifter
- Persistent valve train ticking or tapping, especially on cold start
