What This Part Does

The fan clutch automatically modulates how much the cooling fan engages based on engine temperature and load. At lower operating temps it disengages to reduce drag and improve fuel economy. As temps rise, it locks in progressively to pull maximum airflow through the radiator. A worn clutch that stays disengaged causes overheating; one that stays fully engaged creates excessive noise, vibration, and unnecessary load on the engine.
